Our names are so mundane that we barely notice them. Yet each contains countless stories of tradition and belonging – be that a legacy of colonialism or persecution, the desire to fit in, or the complex cultural inheritance from one’s parents.
Sheela Banerjee (New Statesman Book of the Year What’s In a Name?) and Lucy Fulford (The Exiled) talk to writer and activist Pavan Amara about empire, immigration and race and discuss the complex and multi-layered stories of their own names in a fascinating discussion about identity and belonging.
