Scratch Books is the home of the perfect short story and is named after the sensation you get after you’ve stroked the soft fur of a cat to discover later that it scratched you – the litmus test of any great short story. Tom Conaghan, founder and editor of both Scratch and its anthology Reverse Engineering, as well as its forthcoming books The Unreliable Nature Writer and Duets (which pairs writers to co-write stories), runs this capsule workshop about how to create compelling and memorable stories in short-form. A must for anyone who loves the sting of a story and would like to learn where to start – and most importantly, where to stop.
