Punk found its natural home in Hackney and to celebrate its 40th anniversary, we’re running workshops and activities with local schools to encourage children to express themselves and think about how they can change the status quo.
We started at William Patten School last week, making placards with Year 6 pupils, getting ready for our MANIFESTO rally over festival weekend. With their SATS exams behind them, the kids enjoyed a chance to express their freedom of thought and engaged in a riot of imagination as they created individual slogans and images such as Save the Sloths and Stay Young, be a Tongue! Topics on their minds ranged from environmentally conscious to the downright surreal, perfectly capturing the wisdom and lively curious thought of young people’s minds. There was even a subliminal EU conversation over brussels sprouts…are they naughty or nice?
Their brightly colored placards will be on display before the march at William Patten playground.
11 – 4 pm June 4th Saturday at William Patten School, come along to create your own protest art placard to take to the Town Hall on Church St at 4pm. Express yourself! Become a tiny punk!
