Karen was born in Philadelphia, USA, but has lived in London for much of her adult life and currently resides in Newcastle, Australia. She is a writer with extensive experience in feature film script development and has taught screenwriting at universities and professional training programmes in the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Estonia and Latvia.
Her book EDGAR ALLAN POE AND THE LONDON MONSTER is the first in a new series in which Poe and his literary creation Auguste Dupin arrive in London to solve a series of crimes beginning with the bizarre, real-life mystery of the London Monster. This caused a huge scandal in the 1880s when a series of women were stalked in the streets by an unknown assailant, who slashed at their clothing and their derrieres. So much so, that women took to wearing copper pots under their clothing to protect themselves! It draws on the fact that Poe did live in London at one time and his grandparents were struggling actors in the city, and blends fact and fiction, and elements from Poe’s books with wonderfully evocative period atmosphere.
