Barney Ashton-Bullock is a poet who writes the darkest, hottest, and most intense poems you’ve ever read. His ‘rhyming latrine lyricism’ has been described as ‘post-Berkoff’ by theatre critic Patrick Marmion. He is the creative director of the SFE Record Label whose signings include Marc Almond, Jimmy Somerville and Andy Bell. He is the writer of the ongoing poetic song cycle ‘Andy Bell is….’ for Erasure’s Andy Bell, two episodes of which, ‘The Bareback Saint’ and ‘The Beautiful Libertine’, have achieved sell out runs at theatres and festivals in London, Manchester and Edinburgh; a third part is scheduled for early 2019. Barney twice represented the United Kingdom as a young playwright through the Royal Court Young People’s Theatre and has had a dozen verse dramas, including ‘Britannia Is Dead’, ‘Born Angry’ and ‘Queer Dorset Bastard’, performed in venues across London and Bournemouth . He studied at Goldsmith’s College in London and has been the recipient of two ‘FOCAL International’ awards for his work curating documentary film archive into DVD releases about British History. His first poetry pamphlet ‘Mottled Memoirs’ (2014) was a constituent part of the performance programme for his ‘Torsten The Bareback Saint’ show and was published by Cherry Red Records and his second collection ‘Schema / Stasis’ was published by The Society Club in 2017.
