Arifa Akbar is a British Pakistani journalist and critic. Born in London in 1972, she worked for The Independent for fifteen years as a news reporter, lelading its news-team in the aftermath of the 7/7 attacks, and then as its arts correspondent and literary editor, until April 2016. She has regularly written for The Financial Times, the London Evening Standard, and appeared on Sky News and BBC Radio. She is currently head of content at the publisher, Unbound, and launch editor of its long-form literary website, Boundless.
